Background of the Study
Financial sustainability is a critical concern for healthcare facilities, particularly private hospitals, which are often reliant on patient fees and limited external funding. In Nigeria, the healthcare sector faces numerous financial challenges, including inadequate government funding, rising operational costs, and an inefficient healthcare financing system (Olabode & Musa, 2023). In Niger State, private hospitals play a crucial role in complementing the public healthcare system. However, maintaining financial sustainability remains a challenge due to the high cost of medical supplies, poor revenue generation models, and competition from public hospitals.
This study seeks to evaluate the financial sustainability strategies of private hospitals in Niger State and provide insights into effective financial practices that can ensure long-term sustainability while maintaining high-quality healthcare services.
Statement of the Problem
Private hospitals in Niger State face significant financial challenges, which hinder their ability to provide quality services and maintain operational efficiency. Factors such as limited financial planning, high operational costs, and a lack of diversified income sources contribute to the financial instability of these institutions. As a result, many private hospitals struggle with consistent service delivery and long-term financial viability.
This study examines the financial sustainability strategies used by private hospitals in Niger State and identifies the key factors that affect their financial performance.
